GLP currently implements education technology activities for professional development to support the USAID Higher Education Project (HEP) in Afghanistan. In June and July 2009, the GLP team conducted a research study to better understand the effect access to technology professionally has had on HEP participants thus far.

The report, Afghanistan Higher Education Project: The Impact of Education Technology (pdf), presents the findings from this study. Based on data gathered from over 100 HEP participants, it examines how teacher trainers use the HEP Portal and more generally, computers, and how this usage has impacted or changed their professional behavior.

The findings indicate an overall positive attitude toward technology, due specifically to the efficiencies created by computer use and the opportunities for online collaboration. The research concludes with a recommendation for the refinement of the GLP education technology program to provide more information literacy training focused on improving research skills to better utilize the Portal and its resources.
